Cruel Summer

Somber Solstice
I did the right thing for now and took off of work thursday and friday. I took advantage of getting paid time off after getting held up. So, instead of going back to that hell-hole and gambling with my life, I decided to go to Atlantic city and gamble with my money. This was my first experience with casinos and a chance for me to attend my cousin's graduation. I've heard that money won is twice as sweet as money earned. I didn't win any money on friday night, I've never really been into gambling. I just went for the experience and for fun. Money won is twice as sweet, but I think money taken or stolen is three times as sweet. That's sort of my pirate mentallity, why gamble when it's probably easier and more fun to beat the system.

Anyway, on the way out of Atlantic City I saw an exit sign for Absecon, ahh, memories. Then I went to my cousin Jayne's graduation on a couple hours of sleep. I had a good time and enjoyed my seeing my family. Once again I didn't see Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, any gangsters or anything that entertainment has conditioned me to expect. I just saw a lot of white bread kids and a bunch of pine trees. And the rain that will never end. Forget about it.

"Small Town Predicts My Fate, Perhaps That's What No One Wants To See"
I find myself behind the 8-ball now. Last night at my job I was robbed at gunpoint. Some bandits came in at 10:40 while I was training my co-worker on his first night. They just wanted the money from the drawer and safe. When I told them about the time-delay they seemed a little agitated, so I told them I had an extra cash register and that seemed to appease them. That's where street smarts come in handy, you gotta have ice water in your veins to remain calm when someone's pointing a gun at you. And of course the rest of my night was ruined. I remember thinking I was gonna get shot when I told them about the safe. It's funny how many quick thoughts run through your head in about two minutes. I remember thinking if I don't get shot, I might get fired, I might have to quit, I can't die, I've never even been to New York, etc...
One funny thought came to me shortly after. Everytime I talk to or see Patrick, he always asks me if 'I've been robbed lately'. I never have anything exciting to say, just the typical 'no, not really...'
So now when Patrick asks, I'll actually have an interesting story prepared just for him.

To make a long story longer, I started reciting song lyrics like "Small Town Predicts My Fate, Perhaps That's What No One Wants To See", "I belong, a long way from here" "I want to live, I want to love, but it's a long hard road, out of hell." I spoke to family and friends, did a little 'soul searching'. Ultimately I realized it was the beginning of my 'Bad Season' (see June of 2002) Now I'm at a crossroads. Staying means working under unsafe conditions, by yourself all day or open late at night without security. Leaving means the uncertain experiences of new job(s) and the hassles that go along with having no senority. My dad said all the pros and cons don't matter, when your life is at risk, that tips the scales. It's kind of funny, on memorial day, I discussed how special and precious life is with Aaron and Craig.

Of course I lost the tournament today. All I had to do was win one out of two games to advance to the championship game. I was a little off to say the least. And now I'm faced with a tough decision, and another rocky summer ahead of me. Oh well, I'm sure it will all work itself out.
To quote myself from June of 2002 - "And thus a typical 'incident' marked the beginning of my annual turbulent Bad Season."

Ball In Hand
Today was the beginning of the billiards class tournament. I received a bye in the first round and was the 4th seeded player in that bracket. (naturally, I am the man) I went on to win round two, knock out the #1 seeded player in round 3, and win the 4th round advancing to the final portion of the bracket. I've had fun playing with Chris, Mike and Derek, the people I've practice with up until this point. Today I showed up wearing my Gym Rats outfit, and I played to win!

Another One Bites The Dust
Once again work is beginning to suck just as I am finished with a semester. They've been making big changes since march, I didn't really have to deal with it since I wasn't there very much. But now that the semester is over, things are breaking down at a rapid rate. First my district manager was fired. Then my boss decided to move to Cincinnati with a guy she supposedly just met one month before the decision to move was made (probably a Bengals fan) The human resources manager and other heavyweights are gone. Finally today I found out that they fired Mike, the district manager whose home office is in the back of our store. I've known some of these folks for a long time and it's sucks when you get comfortable at work and people start to rock the boat.
So now it's like this big royal rumble. People getting eliminated quickly. I think I'll slide under the bottom rope and head for higher ground.

Toonces The Homeless Cat

June has had a typically mundane start. Nothing extremely exciting or interesting happens, just generic rainy weekends, days around the house or at work.
My mom has been feeding this pack of stray cats for a while now. One night we found a cat crying at the bottom of our hill. We fed her through the fence and she became attached to us from that moment on. This one is different, too friendly and rejected by the aggressive pack that plagues my front yard. This cat must have belonged to someone recently. I affectionately named this cat 'Toonces the Homeless Cat'. I haven't seen a cat act as lonely as this one, making many attempts to get into our house and follow us around the yard. It's a shame people disregard animals so carelessly. I think I've treated ex-girlfriends the same way, perhaps that's why I'm single, but we'll delve into that sometime later.

Anyway, I've found myself spending my time at UMBC playing pool in the billards class, and then playing basketball and/or swimming afterwards. It's kind of weird showing up and not having to deal with academics for the first time in a year and a half. And of course I'm back to staying up late eating junk food, drinking beers, playing video games and watching tv. I've spent a lot of time watching the NBA Finals and cleaning out my filthy crawlspace or 'underhouse'. I discovered a considerable amount of mold in this damp, dark room. I've been congested this spring and this didn't help any. I had to put on a respirator and start chucking trash and ruined items from the room.

On a sad and final note, My mom has decided to make some calls and have someone find a home for Toonces. With our dog and finances, we can't take in the cat and it's not fair to leave it outside out house everyday. I think the stray cat is symbolic. Once the semester ended, I strayed from the course. I've been sleeping in, laying around the house. The cat was a reminder that I need to make the most of this summer. Or maybe it was just a lost cat.

Cigarette Stains on Your Ass
This is so cool, another reason I need to move to NY.
I still believe Billy Joel's Movin Out would sound awesome as a punk rock cover...

I found it amusing that a midi version of Adina Howard's 'Freak Like Me' actually exists. I was suprised to find that through a midi search engine it was available on multiple sites. I wanted to put it up as the background music for June in memory of Senior Week, but I think I enjoy Molly by Sponge more.
High School memorabilia and searching for midis are just a few examples of how I've really raised the bar in the world of doryness.

Speaking of Ocean City Md, don't take it from me, take it from this site:

Hulk Up
Having fun right now with my billiards class. I want to show up one day in a black shirt that says 'Vince' in white text on the front and dance around to 'Eric Clapton's It's In the Way That You Use It'. (If you didn't see Color of Money, disregard that).
Today is my Grandfather's birthday, Happy Birthday Grandaddy! Also it is the anniversary of the first day of my High School senior week like anyone would ever care to know that useless fact.
I made a special trip to the new Giant at the corner of Rt 228 and Indian Head Hwy in the new Manokeek Shopping Center (Not Accokeek, Manokeek!) Sounds manly.
It's actually the only thing in this new shopping center. I wanted to catch some sales/deals and witness the largest Giant on the eastern seaboard. (someone else said that, and the same thing about the Bowie Md. Giant, so don't hold me to that one) No pictures because it was raining and not really that memorable, I did buy some new Incredible Hulk Green Hersheys Syrup. Everyone thought it was disgusting when I bought green and purple ketchup. So now I get to use this new syrup and enjoy my usual evening treat of beer and ice cream, but now ice cream coated with green chocolate. Looks like I'll really be spraying the bowl tomorrow.

'I wrote myself into my screenplay, that's kinda weird isn't it'
I've been lying on the first day of the month. Let's see, what can I come up with on the spot here. I start work tomorrow with the U.S. Robotics Corp. and I've been selected as a ringer for the University's Baseball team (to help them win obviously, since I am a star athlete.) That sounded good.
And continuing the info about the made for tv movie about my life, some roles for my character were proposed by the committee. Some names brought up were Ralph Machio, Keanu Reeves and Ed Norton, all of which show merit. So far the actor who will most likely be selected to portray Zosie is:

Brad Pitt
