Winter Wasteland

This might be the most time I've spent at home in what seems like years. I worked on Saturday morning and customers lined up on the sidewalks before my store opened with snow on their minds. The volume of business was incredible, I spent alot of time on a register bangin' them out. Once again people went crazy at the video and grocery stores because they might have to be in the house for 1-2 days.
Between Saturday night and today on Monday, I have spent my time at home. It snowed at least a foot and a half, maybe more in places with snow drifts. It felt great to get another day off of school and get a chance to play around in the snow. I had this particular Sunday off by chance, normally I would be working, and I just lucked out to have a Sunday off when a blizzard hit. School was closed for Sun-Tues, maybe I'll get lucky and they will close it on Wednesday. I love the snow, and the cold. I enjoy sitting around the house, drinking cocoa, and exploring this frozen landscape. These snow days are refreshing, they take me back to my adolescence.

Comments
Fuck you Haloscan! I decided to give the commenting thing a trial run at the beginning of 2003. And conveniently the popular Haloscan was not offering sign-ups due to heavy usage. They said they would revamp and rollout a new program, etc. That message about new sign ups was posted on 12/15 and has not changed in two months. They update about as much as Alan :)
So I decided to shop around and found Enetation. We'll see how well it works. I plan on at least adding this comment feature to the current ejournal (January and February) As far as adding it to the archives or other pages, I will discuss that possibility with a panel, a committee if you will, and we (I) will get back to you. For now I have refered to this Comment feature/service of the site as
"You are entitled to your opinion (no matter how wrong it is)" Enjoy.

Hey Now, You're an All-Star

The one time I would be unable to set a vcr would be the one time when Michael Jordan is appearing in his last all-star game and Mariah Carey is singing the halftime show in a tight #23 Wizards Jersey-dress. I had something copying and I was at work, so I had to watch it on the tv at work. I missed taping it (like I need more VHS copies of things laying around which I will never watch again), but bless you internet for a few dozen stills.
Here's two: It's good to be Michael Jordan Fembot Mariah

And while trying to find music from a certain year for an upcoming mix, here's a link I found listing the top 100 songs of each year from 1980-2002.

Inclement Weather

Why don't you come down here and have some chicken with me, it's so cold.

When I was a kid they called it a snow day. Now it's just called inclement weather. Either way, snow had been in the forecast for days and I received a good 7-8 inches here. Just like in early December, it got me out of school for the day. I had little intention of going if school had remained open. When I came home from work late on Thursday night it had already snowed about 4 inches. Driving was nasty, it was thick out there, 'thick like Smithfield Bacon!'
The snow got a little wet as the day went on, so instead of exploring the forest behind my house, I decided to go sleding around 1:30. I headed southwest of my house towards what used to be the empty plains of the Windbrook Badlands. Now housing development has encroached upon these fields. There was an area of construction that provided some mighty peaks, but it was a muddy mess under the snow...bad idea. I walked further and found a decent hill between some houses. I remembered this area when it was hills and fields before it was developed. Running around the undeveloped portions reminds me of when I went sleding here as a teenager. I wanted to run across the land and throw a flag in the ground and claim it like in that movie Far and Away. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way these days.

Space Oddity
It was a gray, foggy, Irish morning. I went to work feeling tired and uneasy. I remember feeling like something bad was going to happen at work, but it was just a typically annoying day on the job. I was told around 10:30 to 'turn on the news, the space shuttle exploded.' When they showed images of the Columbia exploding, it made me think of Jan. 28th, 1986 when the Challenger exploded. Except this time I'm not at Clinton Grove Elementary School, and this time the shuttle debris landed on a couple states for the yokels to poke and prod at. In these trying times, One can only seek solice in the comfort of music, I dedicate this one to the crew.
