Opening Day
I returned to school after my spring break. Wrestlemania was good, better than last year. There's something nice about Wrestlemania in late march pared with spring break and the NCAA tournament. I returned to class today on what is the opening day of the baseball season. I wore two t-shirts and my black KC hat...and leather pants...and I am a heel now too. I was tired all day from being up late for the pay per view, but it turned out to be a nice day at school. At one point in my graphic design class, we were astonished to see it snow heavily out of nowhere, then it stopped and then it was sunny.
I watched some of the movie signs. There's another Culkin kid in this movie. Everytime I turn around there's another Culkin. The older one (Kieran Culkin) was in the movie Igby Goes Down and Rory Culkin is in this movie. And they look just like the original (Macaulay Culkin). I believe they are cloning these Culkins. When one gets too old to be useful or cute (like Macaulay), they have a whole fresh stock to choose from.

Spring Broke?!
My spring break in essence started after class on Friday the 21st. (which was a sorry ass friday) I enjoyed sunday of that weekend off. Then spring break welcomed a return to my old friend, the video store. But this week was bizarre to say the least. I worked long opening shifts at the Marlow Heights store on Mon/Tues. Then worked Wed. night and went to a regional meeting at the Holiday Inn at Dulles on Thurs. Of course the 2 days at Marlow and the day spent at the meeting were the prettiest days of the week. I went shopping all over the place on Friday and got some R & R later that evening. I went to Forestville Mall to buy some snickerdoodles and silver athletic pants (not necessarily in that order). I discovered that the old record store 'Memory Lane Music' had been closed down, then purchased by someone else and re-opened by another owner under the new name 'Memory Lane CD's and Records Inc' I had a good time buying a stack of classic 45's at most reasonable prices. I spent some time outdoors on Sat. and some time around the house. I paid a long over due visit to my comic book store and a few other stores. And Sunday was dedicated to Wrestlemania. It was about 70 degrees on Sat and then it snowed off and on all Sunday. Wrestlemania was enjoyed again this year with good friends and Craig hosted it and as usual the venue changed as Craig has lived in 4 different places during the past 5 Wrestlemanias.
If I learned anything during spring break it was
1)I still don't care for the confusion of working at a different store.
2)I still don't care for working period.
3)I hate driving to Virginia, esp during morning and evening rush hours
4)Time flys fast on a weekend off regardless of whether you are having fun or not.
5)You will never get out of having to do some kind of school work on break, even if it's just a few small assignments.

"Bombing brown people, not because they're in our affairs, just because they're brown" - George Carlin
Yesterday was this gorgeous, spring like day. I did everything from driving around listening to my favorite songs with the windows down, to exercising, to basking in the sun outside my home. Today was very grim. When I finished my school work and went to bed last night, the news channels had a running countdown to war. A clock counting down in hours, minutes and seconds. It was almost like some kind of sci-fi, apocalyptic movie. Even the electronic signs on the highway had a terror alert. The campus wasn't as packed as usual. The sky was gray and dark, there was a cold, bitter wind blowing. There was definitely a dark, cold mood today. I made the best of my evening by spending it with my family for my Grandma's birthday party.
I will leave you with these somewhat unrelated but moody lyrics:

Irish Eyes Are Smiling
Happy St. Patrick's Day. I returned to school today after enjoying a pretty good weekend. I had Sunday off for a change and planned to relax tonight. I had a great day at school. I got home and Bush was on TV talking about the countdown for Saddam. Nothing put a damper on my night, I enjoyed watching Raw and hanging with Marty. I'm enjoying a flexible work schedule and having time to devote to my school work. I spend these days working on art for class and for myself, listening to my favorite songs and drinking heavily. As far as blasting my favorite songs and drinking, what else is new?!

I aced this
Who knew this day wasn't like the rest, instead of taking the test, I took two to the chest.
Actually, I did take the test and I aced it. I am refering to my 20th Century Art History class. After leaving school on Monday the 10th, I felt a lot of pressure with this midterm hanging over my head and assignments for other classes. Monday night I worked on a self portrait, and did my graphic design project on Tuesday. I also had to cram for the history test too. Without a study guide, it was my job to go over my notes and read the lengthy chapters. After reading all those chapters, I never want to here the suffix 'ism' again. I had to study Fauvism, German Expressionism, Cubism, Analytic Cubism, Synthetic Cubism, Futurism, Cubo-Futurism, Constructivism, Suprematism, Dadaism and blah blah blah. I did a good job studying and pictured myself putting an apple on the teachers desk after the test was over and writing 'I aced this' on the top (like Val Kilmer did in Real Genius).

I couldn't find the one shirt I wanted to wear before I went to bed. I looked through all my clothes and then thought that it might have fallen behind the drawers and underneath the dresser. Sure enough it did, and I went to bed. I realized when leaving for school today that my tackle box with my charcoal and pencils etc. was gone. I probably left it in the classroom on Monday. If it doesn't turn up it will really chap my caboose. But t-shirts and charcoal aside, I turned in my essay portion of the test and the teacher told me I was 'the first one so far to get every question right' on the first part of the test. I looked behind myself, thinking she may have been talking to someone else, I just couldn't believe it. I was all smile after that. The tackle box never turned up though. But the rest of my day went well, I never even needed my supplies for drawing class anyway. The weather is getting warmer, and I'm on fire. I said it in November and I'll say it again, I am the man right now. My favorite season is coming up and I am a winner. I'm the man.

Royal Treatment
I'm keeping myself busy with school work and everything else. I've been tired lately, mentally and physically. Between falling down stairs, tromping around in the mud and wind to get to class, and staying up late working on stuff at home, I feel like I've been rode hard and put away wet. Now that there is a calm after the storms of February, it's a little more peaceful at my job. I'm not there much anymore, but this time of the year is relatively quiet.

I came home from work and wanted to get a pizza while watching Smackdown. I knew that I would miss the first hour while getting the pizza and going to hat world at the mall. I got home, watched hour two of Smackdown, ate the pizza and decided to go back and watch the first hour. I didn't miss anything, the entire portion I missed had been interupted by President Bush's press conference. He spent an hour rambling on about bombing some country and some kinda war or something like that, I don't know,
Anyway, the big news was I found an awesome Black Kansas City Royals hat and ordered it through Hatworld. It's not quite what I wanted (not completely black) but it's a start. The blue, black and white look great. I am excited and who knows, maybe I'll hold a press conference within a week to discuss the hat once I purchase it. (I just downplayed the severity of war by pretending like I am oblivious while focusing on a superficial activity like searching for a certain hat. But I am a heel now and more of my asshole behavior is on the way)

March Forth
Today is March Forth, the only day of the year that is also a command...March Forth. Get it?
Also I don't watch too much tv, but I still make an effort to watch wrestling, Smallville and Will & Grace. On these shows I continue to notice these hip, new Target commercials. These are the commercials that are done completely in black, white and red. I wonder if I'm the only one who enjoys these. I especially like the one that has some dudes playing their Xbox or the one where the guy shaves his head all set to punk rock music. These commercials rock, have a fast pace to them, and the black, white and red has a strong illustrative quality. The message I get from them is that Target has cool products and is hip with the younger crowd. I like to kick tables and chairs over when I they come on.

March Madness
You know that old phrase 'when one door closes, another one opens' Well, it works both ways. I had a lousy week.

The week before (2/16 - 2/22) was a nice suprise break due to the weather. The news refered to it as "The Storm of the Century", not a very dramatic statement considering we are only a couple years into the century. And just like my winter session break in January, I just relaxed. I tell myself I'm going to get a lot done on a break, when infact I get much more done when I am under pressure and have no break. During the snow hiatus I accomplished very little.

So I returned to school on Monday the 24th with a cold and not on top of my game. The traffic sucked, the parking sucked, the ground was icy and this was the story of the week. I was sick and tired on Wed. and it snowed on the campus. After class I visited the computer lab briefly. Later when I was coming down the stairs of the Fine Arts Bldg, my feet slipped out from under me and I fell on my ass on the tile/steel stairs. I rolled onto the platform at the bottom of the stairs and layed there in pain. Fortunately, I just bruised bone and muscle. Then it snowed on Thurs. making my day shift miserable as usual and causing me to miss going to the Doughty concert with Craig and Patrick. Yet it didn't snow quite enough to cancel classes for Friday. I had hoped/planned on not going to class on Friday.

I hope this pattern does not continue. I did a lot of losing and failing this past week or so. This is why sometimes say 'when one door opens another one closes'. I have often found that a period of success is followed by a period of failure. But that's just a negative outlook. I try to be a cup is half-full kinda guy. So I will try to stay positive and hope for good luck this month. I perform well under pressure, but putting that and luck aside, I will try to stay focused and keep a positive attitude regardless of what goes on. I feel like I am a completely different from the Zosies of the past, but then again other people and things are different too. So as spring approaches and the season changes, I too must embrace the changes I am faced with and handle change with what I have learned through maturity and wisdom.
